Hi, I am Lindsay! I am currently working on my second bachelor’s degree in Education. I received my Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Lethbridge, where I studied three disciplinary subjects: History, Geography and Sociology/Psychology.
During my third year at university, I took a class called Education 2500 – Orientation into Teaching at the University of Lethbridge. This course gives students the opportunity to experience what it is like to pursue a career in education. I worked as a student teacher/education assistant under the direction of my Teacher Associate in a Grade 4 and 5 split classroom.
Before this experience, I knew that teachers inspire their students to learn, but I did not realize how much the students themselves would inspire me to become a teacher. Kids are energetic, creative, bright and curious. I want to become a teacher because of the students, especially young children. For me, teaching is about giving students the support and knowledge they need to have a bright future. From a young age, kids have passions whether for certain school subjects, sports, music, or meeting new friends. This has inspired me to become a teacher so I can integrate all of these things into my classroom. I want to create a safe space for learning, where students learn to respect those around them and are encouraged to collaborate, think creatively and pursue their passions.
When I am not in the classroom I enjoy skiing, fishing, golfing, camping, reading and spending lots of time with my friends and family! I included a photo of me fishing in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico, because it captures a meaningful memory of me doing something I truly enjoy.
